Holter Monitoring

Holter Monitor

At Cardiac Network Australia in Auburn, we also provide Holter monitoring, a simple test that records your heart’s rhythm over 24 to 48 hours (and sometimes longer).

A Holter monitor is a small, portable device that you wear while going about your usual daily activities. It continuously records your heart’s electrical activity, similar to an ECG (electrocardiogram), but for a longer period of time.

This test helps your doctor to:

  • Detect irregular heartbeats (arrhythmias) that may not show up during a short ECG.
  • Assess if your heart rhythm is too fast, too slow, or irregular.
  • Investigate symptoms such as palpitations, dizziness, or fainting.
  • Monitor how well your heart medications are working.

How it works:
Small sticky patches (electrodes) are placed on your chest and connected to the Holter monitor, which you carry in a pouch or clip to your belt. The device is lightweight and discreet, so you can move around normally, go to work, and even sleep while wearing it.

There is no pain involved, and once the monitoring period is over, you simply return the device to us. Our team will then analyse the results and share them with your doctor.

The Holter monitor is a safe and valuable tool for giving us a clear picture of your heart rhythm during everyday life.
