Echocardiogram

Echocardiogram (Heart Ultrasound)

At Cardiac Network Australia in Auburn, we are committed to helping you understand your heart health. One of the most common and useful tests we perform is the echocardiogram, also known as a heart ultrasound.

An echocardiogram is a safe and painless test that uses sound waves (similar to the technology used in pregnancy scans) to create moving pictures of your heart. These pictures allow your doctor to see:

  • How well your heart is pumping blood.
  • The size and shape of your heart chambers.
  • How your heart valves are opening and closing.
  • If there are any problems, such as weakened heart muscle or leaking valves.

During the test, a small device called a probe is moved gently across your chest. This sends sound waves into your heart and records the echoes, which are then turned into images on a screen. The whole test usually takes about 30–45 minutes.

You do not need to worry—an echocardiogram does not involve any radiation, and there are no side effects. You can eat, drink, and take your regular medications before the test unless your doctor gives you different instructions.

This simple and effective test helps us understand your heart’s condition and guide the best treatment plan for you.
